Fokker DR. I 400mm wooden kit in wooden box

The Fokker triplane was built in direct response to the Sopwith Triplane, which had been introduced in early 1917. Its designer was Reinholdt Platz. By the summer of 1917, 318 Fokker DR-1s had been ordered. Von Richthofen's squadron was the first unit to receive one of the new aircraft. The "red baron" was enthusiastic about it and many aerial victories were achieved with this aircraft. In particular, the inherent maneuverability of the triplane and the heavy 110 hp rotary engine from Oberursel made the Fokker Dr-1 a success. It has been compared to the Sopwith Camel in terms of control technology and to the Sopwith Triplane because of its tremendous climbing ability. During its peak operational period in May 1918, 171 aircraft were in the Jastas (fighter squadrons) stationed at the front.
